IGTIC and representatives of the Asian Development Bank discussed financing mechanisms for the public and private sectors of Kazakhstan

On October 16, in Astana, representatives of the NJSC “International Green Technologies and Investment Center” (hereinafter – the Center), led by CEO Mr. Didar Karimsakov, held a meeting with representatives of the Asian Development Bank, including Mr. Chris Purcahs and Mr. Andreas Biermann.

Mr. Didar Karimsakov opened the meeting with a presentation on the Center’s activities and its work on best available technology reference guides, as well as support for startups in green technologies under the GCIP program. It was noted that the Center is a partner of the Apex Green Fund and has a pipeline of promising green projects, while actively working on the establishment of a Carbon Fund.

 

The representatives of the Asian Development Bank expressed great interest in the Center’s activities and emphasized that they are conducting a consultation mission in Kazakhstan as part of technical assistance to support Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) for the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in accordance with the Paris Agreement. One of the outcomes of this mission will be the presentation of a Roadmap for Solid Waste Management to mobilize financing from the private sector.

Key issues regarding mobilizing financing to achieve climate change mitigation and adaptation goals were also discussed during the meeting.

At the end of the meeting, both parties highlighted the importance of continuing joint efforts to ensure sustainable financing and implement effective waste management mechanisms that will help Kazakhstan achieve its goals.
