This initiative is an important step in making agriculture more resilient to climate change and strengthening the country’s food security.
Furthermore, a carbon removal initiative has been introduced, marking it as one of the initial projects of its kind in Kazakhstan. This initiative will be executed as part of Kazakhstan’s revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0). It emphasizes Kazakhstan’s dedication to the objectives of the Paris Agreement and its efforts in combating global warming.
Significant attention was also directed towards the safeguarding of the ecosystem of Lake Balkhash. In conjunction with this discourse, Kazakhmys Corporation has committed to providing $5 million in funding for initiatives pertaining to research on the lake’s ecosystem, sustainable water management, biodiversity monitoring, and the enhancement of water quality. These measures are designed to conserve the region’s unique natural resources and establish a sustainable framework for the management of aquatic ecosystems.
One of the important results of the COP29 summit was the positive decision that, in 2026, Kazakhstan will host a Regional Climate Summit, which will serve as a platform for developing joint strategies and solutions to combat climate change. Kazakhstan strives to create conditions for open and constructive dialogue, as well as to facilitate the exchange of best practices and innovations.
