On March 12-13, 2025, Acting Chairman of the Board of the NCJSC “International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects” Saken Kalkamanov and Managing Director Assylkhan Aitzhanov participated in the “Global Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) Workshop” organized by UNEP at its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. The event focused on key aspects of climate technologies, including their role in national climate plans, as well as opportunities to enhance cooperation and investment in technological initiatives in developing countries.

Since 2009, UNEP, in collaboration with the UNFCCC Secretariat, has been implementing the Technology Needs Assessment (TNA) project in more than 100 developing countries. Through this project, countries develop their TNA and Technology Action Plans (TAP) for selected priority sectors, taking into account socio-economic, environmental, and climate criteria. This process supports the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) under the Paris Agreement, contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Participation in the workshop allowed Kazakhstan to present its climate priorities and establish connections with international financial institutions, highlighting the country’s readiness to engage in the next phase of the project.

Additionally, as part of its participation in the workshop, the Kazakh delegation held meetings with representatives of the UN Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN). These meetings focused on opportunities for receiving technical assistance and collaborating on the implementation of green technologies. Kazakhstan expressed its willingness to cooperate in the field of innovative climate solutions and the development of technologies for sustainable development.

A meeting was also held with representatives of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), where opportunities for financing projects related to Kazakhstan’s green policy were discussed. This collaboration is expected to provide significant support for the country’s environmental and climate initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development and reducing its carbon footprint.
