Kazakhstan is taking a confident step towards a more sustainable future. The International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (IGTIPC) and the National Managing Holding “Baiterek” have agreed to form a strategic partnership aimed at fostering a green economy.
During a bilateral meeting, Acting Chairman of the IGTIPC Management Board Saken Kalkamanov and Chairman of the Baiterek Holding Management Board Rustam Karagoishin discussed collaborative mechanisms to support projects that are environmentally significant, investment-attractive, and technologically sound.
One of the key areas of cooperation is the involvement of companies supported by Baiterek in the work of the IGTIPC’s Bureau for Best Available Techniques (BAT). This collaboration will allow for a detailed technological review of projects followed by environmental expertise, enhancing their overall quality and sustainability.
The discussion also covered the introduction of a mandatory green taxonomy compliance assessment for projects seeking government support. It was proposed that expert opinions from IGTIPC serve as a critical factor in decision-making on state subsidies, grants, or financing.
Special attention was paid to successful cooperation with the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, which is preparing for accreditation by the Green Climate Fund with support from IGTIPC. The Center provided expert and organizational assistance under the Readiness 2 programme, helping align the bank’s internal procedures with international standards.
As a result of the meeting, the parties outlined specific steps for launching joint green initiatives. One of the promising directions discussed was the creation of a Carbon Fund—an instrument to support decarbonization efforts and promote sustainable practices, including carbon farming.
