Central Asia Strengthens Environmental Cooperation: Three Key Initiatives Presented in Aktau

As part of the Central Asian Ministerial Meeting on Environmental Issues, organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects (IGTIPC) presented three conceptual initiatives aimed at enhancing regional environmental cooperation and sustainable approaches to industrial modernization.

1. Central Asian Bureau for Best Available Techniques (BAT)
The initiative aims to establish an interstate coordination center for the implementation of BAT. It proposes launching a regional program to harmonize approaches to environmental regulation in industry, the development of joint BAT reference documents, and the creation of a unified digital platform for data sharing, technology, and educational content. The main goal is the formation of an interstate scientific and technical coordination center to support the transition of Central Asian industry to BAT principles.

2. Regional Acceleration Program for Clean Technology Startups
IGTIPC proposed scaling the successful experience of Kazakhstan’s GCIP program to the regional level. The concept includes launching a clean-tech startup accelerator, creating an expert pool, a mentorship platform, and an investor network for Central Asian countries. The structure is expected to become a unified platform for consolidating knowledge, best practices, and innovative solutions, as well as for deepening cooperation between countries in the region in the field of green technologies.

3. Exhibition of Central Asian Countries within the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana
The concept for organizing an international exhibition in 2026 was presented, dedicated to sustainable development technologies, green industry, and climate solutions. The event is intended to become the region’s central platform for showcasing technological achievements, attracting investment, and stimulating intergovernmental partnership. The aim of the exhibition is to position Central Asia as a united, proactive center of green innovation and international environmental cooperation, providing a practical dimension to the political dialogue of the Regional Environmental Summit through demonstration and implementation of advanced solutions. The event is intended to catalyze foreign direct investment and technology transfer to key economic sectors of the region, as well as to create a platform for synergy between governments, international business, the scientific community, and financial institutions for the joint implementation of environmental projects.

The initiatives were discussed by representatives of sectoral ministries, international organizations, scientific and business communities of Central Asian countries. The presented concepts received an enthusiastic response. The participants noted the relevance of the proposed directions, expressed readiness for joint development and implementation of the initiatives, and emphasized the importance of forming a unified regional approach to solving environmental challenges. The support of all three concepts confirmed the high interest of Central Asian countries in deepening practical environmental partnerships and promoting green solutions at the interstate level.
