Kazakhstan Presents Report on Best Available Techniques (BAT) Implementation in Seoul

Seoul, November 13–14, 2025 – The International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center (IGTIC) presented a report on Kazakhstan’s progress in implementing Best Available Techniques (BAT) at the 10th Meeting of the Group of International Experts on BAT, held in Seoul, Republic of Korea.

In his address, Kairat Masenov, Managing Director and Head of the BAT Bureau at IGTIC, outlined key achievements in Kazakhstan’s transition toward cleaner and more efficient industrial practices. These include the development of national sectoral BAT reference documents, comprehensive technological audits of enterprises, preparation for the new integrated environmental permitting system, and the implementation of measures to reduce emissions, improve waste management, and enhance energy efficiency. He also highlighted Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish a Central Asian BAT Bureau to promote regional cooperation and knowledge sharing.

Beyond the plenary session, IGTIC representatives held bilateral meetings with counterparts from the United Kingdom, China, Thailand, and Vietnam. International partners expressed their readiness to support Kazakhstan through expert consultations, peer reviews, and methodological guidance on the development of national BAT reference documents. The UK delegation also shared sectoral BAT materials for the food, beverage, and livestock industries, which will serve as a valuable foundation for Kazakhstan’s national documents.

The event was organized by the National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) of the Republic of Korea in partnership with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Kazakhstan’s participation reaffirmed the country’s active role in advancing international cooperation in environmental regulation and the green transformation of industry.

Participation in the OECD meeting also reflects Kazakhstan’s strong commitment to aligning with global environmental standards and pursuing a strategic course of industrial modernization through the adoption of best available techniques. The BAT Bureau at IGTIC will continue to strengthen international collaboration, expand expert partnerships, and integrate leading global practices into Kazakhstan’s environmental regulatory system.
