Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan Agree to Develop a Digital Platform for Best Available Techniques (BAT)

A Roadmap for the development of a digital Best Available Techniques (BAT) platform and the transition to BAT principles was signed between the International Green Technologies and Investment Projects Center (IGTIC) of Kazakhstan and the State Environmental Expertise Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan during ECO EXPO Central Asia 2026 in Samarkand.

The document aims to strengthen cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in the field of environmental regulation, implementation of advanced environmental solutions, and the promotion of sustainable industrial development.

The signing of the Roadmap represents a practical continuation of the agreements reached during the Regional Environmental Summit RES 2026 held in Astana. The Summit concluded with the adoption of the Declaration of the Heads of State of Central Asia, which emphasizes enhanced regional cooperation in environmental protection, sustainable development, and the deployment of modern green technologies.

Under the Roadmap, the parties will jointly work on the creation of a digital BAT platform designed to consolidate information on advanced environmental technologies, improve access to data for industrial enterprises and public authorities, and facilitate the accelerated adoption of environmentally efficient technologies across industry sectors.

The Roadmap also outlines cooperation in harmonizing environmental regulatory approaches, strengthening expert collaboration, exchanging knowledge and best practices related to BAT implementation, and fostering institutional partnerships between relevant organizations in both countries.

The implementation of the Roadmap is expected to become an important milestone in establishing a common regional approach to industrial environmental modernization and achieving sustainable development goals across Central Asia.

The agreement further demonstrates the commitment of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to deepening cooperation in the fields of green economy, environmental digitalization, and the implementation of modern mechanisms for sustainable industrial development.
